First time author/illustrator, Mollie Dendy Deeb, was born in Dallas, Texas, and grew up on the Gulf Coast of Florida. She received her B.F.A. from Florida State University and her Teaching Certificate from the University of Texas at Austin. In 1996 she began teaching art for the Austin Independent School District.
Deeb lives with her husband and two daughters in Austin, Texas, where she continues teaching elementary art and still paints when time provides.
Her first book is a blend of childhood experiences woven throughout the story. Influence from her mom's Italian heritage, growing up around her big brother, and spending summers dancing in Manhattan at the School of American Ballet all play a part in the creation of "Mama's Tomatoes."
